NaLHISA is registered as a Trust and currently it has a Board of Trustees consisting of five members. The institute is non-partisan in orientation and serves as a centre for mobilisation of the youth and society in the construction of a more democratic and prosperous South Africa based on the ideals of our struggle forebearers. The Institute aims to be:
- Inclusive of all liberation components and ideological persuasions as means to display the liberation heritage.
- An expression of all forms of resistance and resilience that encapsulate the march to freedom.
- A physical and symbolic representation of all facets of our society, such as gender, faith, age, and colour, that characterise the struggle.
- A reconnection with the past, a constant celebration of our triumph, and a source of inspiration for the realisation of the aspirations of the majority nationally, in the continent, and abroad.
