ADVOCACY

The first step in the collation of all South Africa’s available liberation heritage information is the engagement with all relevant stakeholders nationally and internationally. This will assist NaLHISA to ascertain the amount of information that is available.

NaLHISA will be recognised not just as a repository of liberation history and heritage but as the leading force in advocating for the employment of this rich heritage in the construction of a more democratic and equitable future in line with the ideals of the country’s liberation forebearers.

ARCHIVING AND DIGITISING

Collating and preservation of information

In keeping with the digital age and 4th Industrial Revolution, it is critical that all information is found, and collected (or duplicated) from its current repositories for preservation within the NaLHISA repository.

A digital repository is in the construction phase to ensure safe keeping and provision of access to the community of South Africa and all interested parties looking to learn about the rich history of this country.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

Looking Into the Past to Inspire the Future

NaLHISA sees the country’s rich national liberation story as a strong galvanising force for nation-building and a source of inspiration for future generations. For this reason, the youth is at the centre of focus for NaLHISA to ensure the information is passed on to them, so they can know their past to be able to inspire and dream of a better future for the nation.

A digital repository is in the construction phase to ensure safe keeping and provision of access to the community of South Africa and all interested parties looking to learn about the rich history of this country.

NATION BUILDING THROUGH
TELLING OUR STORY

A critical part of the South African liberation story is the story of the normal South African, the ones who kept the country running whilst freedom fighters were in exile, the ones who fought the system from within, the ones who kept homes running and kept children safe. It is the story of women who fought rapes by their oppressive masters, it is the story of the youth who fought the Afrikaans teaching system, and it is the story of the adult garden ‘boys’ who persevered daily insults to feed their families, it is the story of fathers who were separated from their families in order to work in the mines for their families.

A nationwide storytelling roadshow is, therefore, necessary to collect and collate these stories which are a big part of the struggle for liberation for all South Africans.
